THE TRUE COST OF WAR

The true cost of war

He wakes up from his sleep
Sounds louder than lion's roar
And then a silence so deep
As smoke bridged the sky to the floor.

He pushed onto the ground

Through the smoke a vague view
As he tried to understand the sound
He knew it wasn't something new.
Around he looked for a hand

Couldn't see anyone near
And then he tried to stand
Choosing courage over fear.
When he did step out
For his father looking around
But within all the scream and shout
He could still hear the loud sound.

Then he saw a man
Holding a pipe that spit fire
He moved like he had a plan
Killing all that he desire.

The man had a look of pride
Towards the boy pointing the gun
Killing everyone in his stride
Even a five year old who's life just begun.

The war is on, the man cried
As the boy fought for his life
With every breath painful as a knife
The boy closed his eyes, knowing he tried.
